This is our first meet in the new venue, as said in
last months newsletter this is a trial basis at the
moment so please respect the landlord.
Any silly behavior in the car park or leaving the
car park then we will be asked to leave as a club so
please be sensible any members found doing this will
be banned from Surrey RS Owners Club.
Sorry to sound very strict on this but we have to
respect the landlords wishes as it is his business.
Can I also remind members to pay £1 when collecting
a newsletter as this contributes to the printing of
the newsletter.
MAYS CAR OF THE NIGHT
May’s car of the night was won by John Harle who
owns a stunning White Escort RS Turbo.
John has owned the car for just over a year but has
made many changes to the car since purchasing it.
Firstly the wheels were in to be refurbished once
these were back John decided that some engine
modifications were in order so down to Power
Engineering it was
Then out came the polish and some chrome added
under the bonnet
More plans for the car are Stage 3 T3 and stage 2
head with high lift cam.
Well Done John

SHOW REPORTS
CHEAM SHOW
(A.K.A. Mark 1 & 2 side action show)
Picture this, last year….you are at a nice local
show that’s full of old shinny classic cars with the
old boys in their caps and picnic hampers, then you
find a selection of very clean Mark 1 and 2 escorts
and then the surrey group stand which obviously
proudly displays our members cars…. Then the old boy
announces over his tanoy for the cars on display to
drive slowly around the arena so visitors can admire
them as the old boy explains how much horsepower and
the age etc of each car. Sounds fine, so of course
the old jags trundle round and the Morris minors and
then the mark 1 & 2 escorts make their appearance
…mainly sideways…as you can imagine it was great to
watch and although you kind of cringed at what the
old vintage boys were thinking they carried on one
after another….this also carried on as they left the
show ground, it was crazy but great to be a
spectator, but we were left thinking no way will
they we allowed back next year……
One year later….. everyone met at B.P Ewell and
convoyed to Cheam Park nice and early. Unfortunately
it started of a bit drizzly but it soon cleared up.
Once we had been shown our plot we arranged the
stand with the cars we had, Barry sat his Focus RS
on centre stage at the front mainly because
otherwise we would all be blinded by the chrome in
his engine bay once the sun showed its face. Then
low and behold guess who turns up? The old skool
guys in their Mark 1 & 2 Escorts which means they
must of gone down a storm last year with the show
organizers and we couldn’t wait until they graced
the arena with their presence once again. The sun
was in and out and it was quite busy. There was yet
again a wide variety of cars, vans and bikes. Then
it was arena time… and the old skool guys were back,
sideways again and churning up the grass nicely, it
was so good to watch and most of them were very nice
and very quick. Steve then kindly let me take his
very clean Escort series 2 around the arena, whilst
waiting I chatted to one of the organizers and he
seemed to be enjoying the entertainment laid on by
the old skool boys, as I was about to go onto the
arena I began to panic thinking I had never driven
Steves car and dreaded the thought of stalling it in
the middle of the arena (arnt girls expected to
anyway?) then I realized I was in the RS version of
the back to the future car and I knew somewhere in
his car would be a gadget to stop that…..then Faye
took her very clean Escort turbo cab around thieving
the grass onto her arches, then Ollie whizzed round
in his nice Escort Mk5, Helen took her Sapphire
Cosworth around and think the commentator called it
an Escort Cosworth (he knows his stuff) then of
course Steve Hatton decided to do some donuts and
generally had a bit of fun and our new member Adam
in his clean series 2 escort. It was two of the
clubs youngest members first show for Rebecca (Raoul
& Lauren's tinker) and Megan (Pauline & Nigels
little one) hope to be seeing them in RS babygrows
in the near future.
It was a good day, and I am sure we will be
attending next year and its great being so local. So
make sure you make it next year!

LEICSTER SHOW
The day started off early with a meet up at
Toddington Services. The rain that we had all
weekend put off a few members.
So we met up with Steve at Toddington for a total of
2 Surrey Group members car’s !!!!!
Arrived at show and got our little stand sorted no
sooner had we done that and yes you guessed it the
heavens opened.
Simon and Raoul turned up and we all sat in the
gazebo to get away from the rain.
Was a very good turn out of local groups considering
the weather, so myself and Dave ventured out armed
with umbrella’s !! Went to see how Barry was getting
on with himself battling the rain in Concourse.
After having a little look around and trying to find
some bargains at the trade stands we decided to head
home out of the rain !!!
Roll on the better weather at shows !!!
